Bakersfield College ABC Campus Center / ABC Building - Bakersfield, CA (under construction)

This project consists of design of a new building and renovation of an existing building. The new building is a three-story steel framed structure that will house a new campus bookstore, administration and offices, a lecture hall, kitchen, and support space. The existing cafeteria building will be renovated to better serve the growing campus. Inertia Engineers worked in a BIM environment (Archicad 21) throughout the design process.

California State University Dominguez Hills Preliminary Structural Evaluation of the Existing Natural Science and Math Building

Inertia Engineers, Inc. completed a structural evaluation of this building using the prescriptions of ASCE 31 Seismic Evaluation of Existing Buildings (since replaced by ASCE 41). The building was constructed in 1971 and is three stories with a partial basement. It is a reinforced concrete structure and has a footprint area of approximately 36,000 square feet.  It is currently used as a classroom building but it was desired to renovate for use as offices and/or classrooms. We also created a preliminary finite element computer model using ETABS to assist in our understanding of the performance of the existing building while subjected to seismic loading. The intent of our evaluation was to identify structural deficiencies of the existing building to allow the Owner and Architect to understand the extent of the structural upgrade scope of work as well as to assist in estimating the construction cost of the structural upgrades for this building.
